The Central Government has notified the four Labour Codes, which came into effect on 21 November 2025, marking a significant shift in India’s labour law framework. These changes have direct implications for non-profit organisations, including those with employees and those engaging contract workers.

To support non-profits in navigating this transition, we are publishing a five-part series focused on key compliance and operational considerations under the new framework.

👉 Part I offers an overview of the four Labour Codes and highlights their implications for employers, employees/workers, and contractors.

In the upcoming parts of this series, we will take a deeper look at preparing for compliance under the Code on Wages, 2019, with a focus on wage definitions, payment obligations, and practical steps non-profits can take to align their payroll and compensation practices with the new framework.

To support wider participation, Pacta has collaborated with Civis, who has developed simple tools to help the public understand the Labour Codes and share feedback. Inputs collected through these tools will be compiled by Civis and submitted to the Ministry.

How to share feedback:

AI Voice Bot (multilingual): You can call +91 73146 30434 to ask questions and get explanations about the Codes. You can also share feedback by speaking in your preferred language.

WhatsApp Chatbot (English & Hindi): wa.me/918976926914?text=labourcodes and type the keyword “labourcodes” to get started.
